Halving delivery time for an elearning project with Adapt from Can Studios
When a global provider of learning services and technical training needed to get up to speed fast with Adapt authoring, they chose Can Studios as their expert technical partner.
Tony* heads a unit that creates systems training for large corporate clients – which includes a lot of online learning. He and his team have been aware of the open-source Adapt authoring tool for some time, but hadn’t used it yet.
When a new project came in from one of their key clients – requiring fully-responsive, HTML5 content – it quickly became clear that Adapt was the best tool to use for the job.
However, the tight deadlines and the scale of the project meant they needed to be able to start working fast.
“It was far more commercially viable for us to use Adapt from Can Studios: it’s let us deliver the project in about half the time that we would have been able to if we’d installed Adapt for ourselves.”
For example, to meet their client’s specific requirements, Tony and his team needed to get under the hood of Adapt and customise certain aspects, using custom plugins.
Being able to outsource this additional development work to Can Studios allowed the team to:
begin using that functionality far faster
keep their resources focussed on the client’s deliverables
learn about specifying and testing plugins from experienced Adapt developers (Can Studios became official Adapt Learning collaborators in 2017).
“Creating full responsive elearning in Captivate had a significant development overhead.
For example, we’ve had to code up to six different breakpoints. Adapt takes all that away and saves us a huge amount of work in making courses accessible and mobile-friendly.”
One of the big draws of Adapt for Tony and his team has been that building fully mobile-friendly training content is much faster and simpler than it is in tools such as Captivate.
