Urban Refugee Learning Program

A large and ever-growing number of the refugees the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) works with are based in urban settings.

Working with urban refugees presents a completely different set of challenges to working with refugees based in the countryside or within camps. However, most of the UNHCR’s existing training didn’t include issues that are unique to urban settings.

To help the UNHCR staff and partners work more effectively with urban refugees, we developed a suite of elearning materials that cover all the issues unique to urban refugees.

Urban Refugee Learning Program

To ensure each module is easy-to-digest, we followed the same intuitive format throughout this training course:

  • Introduce the topic.
  • Provide general information for non-specialists.
  • Explore urban refugee issues in-depth. To ensure this training is suitable for a range of UNHCR staff, issues are explored at both the conceptual and operational level.
  • Participants consolidate what they’ve just learnt by interacting with the module’s case study simulation.
